During the East Pomeranian Offensive of the Red Army (February 10 – April 4, 1945), the cities of Dramburg and Falkenburg were liberated by units of the 3rd Shock Army, the 1st Guards Tank Army, and the 1st Polish Army.

“And the tanks kept moving toward the sea. General Shadin and Colonel Nikitin received brief radio reports from the advancing 45th Guards Tank Brigade led by Colonel N.V. Morgunov. One of his battalions had already reached Kolberg. The tank formations of the Red Army were rushing toward the Baltic Sea. The operation became a crushing blow to Germany,” — recalled Mikhail Yefimovich Katukov, commander of the 1st Guards Tank Army.
